[IA] How to get your RON/Electronic Endorsement in Iowa

Before you can use the Notary Hub platform by Everything Legal, you must be currently commissioned as a traditional notary.

Note: If you do not already have a notary license, you must complete that as your first step — or submit the Remote Online Notary Application along with your Iowa Notary Commission.

Steps to Become a RON in Iowa

Every state that allows Remote Online Notarization (RON) requires that it be performed using approved software that includes:

  • Identity-proofing technology
  • E-signing capability
  • Secure storage of notarial act recordings

Notary Hub provides all of this — and more.

You can:

  • Obtain a cloud-based X.509 Digital Signing Certificate from our SSL partners at a discounted rate (or bring your existing certificate). [Get Your Digital Certificate](X509 Certificate Setup Guide).
  • Create your Electronic Signature and Digital Stamp in one place through our all-in-one platform.
  • Use the built-in Electronic Journal to document your remote notarizations, including video session recordings stored securely for 10 years.

Need to access a recording later? You can do so right from your Electronic Journal!

Step 2: Complete a Remote Notary Training Course

Iowa requires notaries to complete a state-approved RON training course as part of registration.
The course covers laws, procedures, and best practices for remote notarization.

  • Exam: There is no exam required.
  • Proof of Completion: You must submit your course certificate when applying to the Secretary of State.

Step 3: Complete the Remote Online Notary Application

Once you have your training certificate, complete the
Online Remote Notary Application
through the Iowa Secretary of State website.

When filling out the application:

  • Select Notary Hub by Everything Legal as your RON service provider from the drop-down list.
  • Attach your proof of training completion before submitting.
